THE English Reformation cannot be regarded as completed in the reign of Elizabeth. The Prayer Book of 1559 was not in any sense final. Like questions to those of Elizabethan times had to be considered and dealt with in later reigns. If the Reformation in England is to be viewed as having been finished at all, its completion must be looked for in the work of the divines of 1661. Consequently, the theology of the period from 1603 to 1662 may be taken in close connection with that of the sixteenth century.
