Hello everyone. I've meet some of you now and I pray that I will meet more of you. Having a busy life, I'm not able to get on the Internet as often as I'd like, but I've visited the chat room several times now. I'm getting the feel of it and starting to understand why people use chat rooms. I have always heard bad things about chat rooms, but got the courage up and found it to be pretty nice....

...but, I do have a concern and I'm hoping someone will have a solution. I sent an email the chat manager but have yet to hear from him/her.

The other night a man came into the chat room asking for proof of the existence of God because he was  questioning his faith and finding things in science that were answering his questions. While there were a few of us trying to help him, there were too gals who had entered the room who were carrying on about random things like choking on saliva and ninjas...I became very upset and spoke up in the room for them to stop and join us in helping this poor lost soul. They seemed young to me and I asked if there was a youth room they could go to and fool around instead of disrupting the serious chat that was going on. I was told there wasn't one.

Is this something that just happens all the time and people are used to it? What about making a room the youth in the community can hang out in and discuss issues related to their age group? Any ideas? Any help?

Thanks for listening.

Firstly,
This question is asked freqently . We can try our best to answer the people.  Most negate what we say.

Secondly,

In a chat room it is common to see several conversations going on at the same time. We cannot dictate to our chatters what they choose to chat about, of course and unless they break the rules of chat room.  If you frequent the chat room, you will be aware that people who use chat rooms somtimes  end up becoming friends.  The room is mainly a room to share our faith, which we do.  But, you will notice that chatters often talk about their jobs, their families, their life in general.  They become online friends. If a monitor is present, be assured that the right thing will be done to end any abuse.

We attempted that a few years ago.  First the room would have to be monitored at all times.  I do not have enough monitors as it is, so that is out of the question. My monitors are volunteers who give of their time and I cannot ask them to do anymore then they do now.

I would suggerst that you continue to frequent the chat room and enjoy it and you will see how the room is run.  It is one of the safest chat room on the internet.  It has also been in existence for serveral years.  Again my hosts do the best they can.

I do appreciate your concern and appreciate the time you took to inform me of them.

I do hope this answers your questions

Dear Middy, thank you for your clarification and time you took to answer my concerns. I will continue to come chat when I have the time (seems like late at night so far) and I will have more patience now knowing a little bit how things work. I was under the impression that when someone "had the floor" everyone in the room was attentive and helped. I see now that this is not true, but I'm sure sometimes a chatter will get the room's attention.

As far as a youth's room, I do have experience in dealing with the youth. I ran our parish's youth group for 7 years and loved it. I know that I am a new chatter and no one really knows me, but perhaps sometime down the road when I am more known and trusted, we could try out a youth room and I would be willing to help monitor it. If, that is you feel I am worthy of working on your site.
