Okay, this saint is a little more well-known, but I'll leave out some of the important facts. He was a priest with a special devotion to the Blessed Virgin. He both died and was cannonized in the 20th century. His father fought in WWI. This saint died during WWII, in the stead of another man. He was cannonized by a pope of his same nationality. Good luck!

A favorite of mine, St Maximilian Kolbe - another great Franciscan.  He was also a missionary to Japan.

This saint was an archbishop in Cuba.  He founded both a men's and a women's religious communities.  He participated in Vatican I.  He  died in 1870.  The men's community is still active today especially as missionaries.

He is the sibling of three other saints, but he was not a barber.  He was named archbishop, succeeding his brother.  He was originally known as a poor student, but was declared a Doctor of the Church 1100 years after his death.  He is the patron saint of things that did not exist until more than 1300 years after he died.

Thsi one will be either very easy or very hard, depending on how you take the clues.

Isidore of Seville

Schoolmaster of the Middle Ages and patron saint
of the Internet, computers and computer users.

No, I said he was not a barber!  (I was actually wondering if anyone would get that reference!)

Obviously, you got it, Jimbo!

Since I'm currently unemployed, I might have to look into that!

TAG, you're it!

(I won't try to guess for at least 24 hours, to give others a chance to participate.  No additional clues necessary for at least 48 hours.)

This saint was a bishop. was married and had a daughter who became a saint also.  He was  not from New York but did have at least one thing in common with Isidore of Seville.

Here is a clue... what this saint and Isidore of Seville had in common
is that they are both Doctors of the Church (that narrows it to 33 possibles).

It took me a long time to figure out the "not from New York" reference, especially since others by that name are not from New York either.  I thought you meant the person was a Bishop of York, England, but none of them who have been declared saints were apparently married.

St. Hilary of Poitiers

The "New York" clue threw me for a loop.  I had looked up St. Hilary before, but two and two didn't add up to four and I rejected him since he was from France.

Good job as always Rick!

That New York clue was underhanded, deceiving, unfair and unjust....and  I would do it again.   Cheesy

Your turn!

I have a feeling you'll know this one, Jim, so let's see if anyone else can figure it out.

He was eleven years old when he took his throne, but his mother served as Regent until he was 22.  He married at 19 and fathered 11 children.  He led two crusades and died on the second.  A famous southern Cathedral bears his name, as does my own parish church.

He was known for judicial and legislative reforms; for establishing hospitals for lepers and religious foundations, and for collecting relics.  His own relics were destroyed during the French Revolution.
