I need help understanding this part...
460 The Word became flesh to make us "partakers of the divine nature":78 "For this is why the Word became man, and the Son of God became the Son of man: so that man, by entering into communion with the Word and thus receiving divine sonship, might become a son of God."79 "For the Son of God became man so that we might become God."80 "The only-begotten Son of God, wanting to make us sharers in his divinity, assumed our nature, so that he, made man, might make men gods."81

Andy,

I've been away on retreat so I'm sorry for getting back to you so late. You are having problems understanding this part of the CCC. What exactly are you not clear on? I know you didn't want a question for an answer but it would help me to give you the answer you are looking for.

Hello Fr. Smith.. long time no chat Smiley

I know this is probably some sort of simple explanation, but someone asked me about this part in the CCC "For the Son of God became man so that we might become God."80 "The only-begotten Son of God, wanting to make us sharers in his divinity, assumed our nature, so that he, made man, might make men gods."81

and I was not sure how to answer them.  they were trying to claim that Catholics beleive that we will become "gods" after we die, and they were useing CCC 460 to support their argument.

If you could just clear that up a bit, that would be great.  So that in the future i could give someone a good answer.

Thank you !!!

God Bless.

OK I see the confusion. The problem is what do we mean by becoming like God. What we believe is that by following Christ we will be able to love and be merciful like God is with us. When we accept that invitation to grow closer and become more intimate with our creator, this is what can happen but first we must accept the invitation.
